The Future of Robotics: Safety with Components from IDEC

The use of industrial robots is constantly evolving - whether in isolated robot manufacturing systems or in collaborative robot production. At the same time, safety requirements continue to grow. Which technologies can be used to guarantee safety in environments in which humans and machines interact with each other? We take a look at safety technologies for the use of industrial robots.

Technologies for safety and protection

The scenario of the future: creating an optimal environment for humans and machines. Even a small mistake can put a worker at risk of serious injury and incidents involving robots drive up costs. Various risks can be isolated and minimized with safety detection systems. In order to comply with the safety regulations of the respective region, a risk assessment and the implementation of protocols and components that meet the relevant safety requirements are necessary.

IDEC, the global industry leader in robot safety, is committed to the concept of “Safety 2.0” for seamless and barrier-free interaction between humankind and machines. A wide range of products such as safety laser scanners, interlock switches and force-guided relays are designed to ensure the safety of robot systems.

Safety components and products for humankind and machines

Robot safety with IDEC products

IDEC’s approach to isolating man and machine from each other includes a range of different safety components and devices.

  • For example, interlock switches and sensors can be used to protect employees. When these emergency stop switches are activated, the machines shut down immediately.
  • When working with robots, sensors can automatically detect the proximity of humans and reduce or stop the machines if the safety distance is not maintained.

IDEC’s proven switches, sensors and controls help maintain productivity by reducing the number of accidents and optimizing manufacturing processes.

Enabling switch from IDEC

IDEC’s 3-stage enabling switch is ideal for system changeover and maintenance of robots, in teach pendants for robots and cobots, in remote controls for CNC machines and overhead cranes, and in bellybox remote controls for special vehicles. The enabling switches send an ultra-fast stop signal when actuated to reliably protect operators. For situations where every second counts.

Third generation emergency stop switches

IDEC’s X-series emergency stop switches differ from conventional emergency stop switches. They have an exclusive “Safe Break Action”, which switches the machine off if a fault occurs in the emergency stop switch.

LED signal towers with an elegant design

Signal towers are indispensable components for safety. The LD6A signal tower from IDEC features a unique oval design instead of the traditional cylindrical design. Thanks to the easy-to-stack LED modules, the column can be individually configured and quickly changed afterwards – by swapping or adding other colors.

The signal towers use LED technology to provide a particularly bright solution for monitoring workstations or signaling process status. The contrast between illuminated and non-illuminated areas provides extra sharpness and increased visibility of the process status.

Innovative safety concepts for the future of human-machine collaboration with IDEC components

In the dynamic development of robotics, in which humans and machines work side by side, safety is increasingly coming into focus. IDEC, as a leading provider in the field of robot safety, is defining standards for smooth collaboration between humankind and machines with its “Safety 2.0” approach.

With a wide range of safety components, from intelligent interlock switches to state-of-the-art LED signal towers, IDEC not only contributes to accident prevention and process optimization, but also creates a working environment in which people and machines can work together efficiently and safely. IDEC is thus paving the way for a promising future of robotics in which safety and innovation go hand in hand.
