Single Pair Ethernet: The future of the industrial revolution
The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is a vision of fully networked industrial production. Everything is connected and exchanges data: People with machines, machines with products, products with products. In a fully networked production, the number of participants and the amount of data to be exchanged can increase exponentially. To cope with even the most intangible dimensions, there must be a common language and clear rules: the Ethernet protocol.
The Ethernet protocol is already used for local data transmission in wired computer networks, but has not yet made its way to the field level. Single Pair Ethernet now introduces a new network architecture concept that, together with other communication standards such as 5G radio transmission or TSN real-time communication, lays the foundation for end-to-end networking from the sensor to the cloud.

The SPE connector concept from Phoenix Contact offers a seamless solution for compact and reliable device connections. The SPE connectors are based on the IEC 63171-2 standard for IP20 applications and the IEC63171-5 standard for IP67 applications.
